These are lovely and I know that you posted earlier about being worried about skin tone and so on, but I think you really captured these individuals really beautifully.

It's weird, but although I know you might not be going fully into the book's realm..I do like seeing you take your style and..*ponders wording*..playing with a looseness to your color and your watercolors. I like in the first one here how that plays out in the skin on her face and I -adore- her hair and how you captured it so simply and wonderfully.

In the second one, I think you captured her expression wonderfully and I like the use of white space in her upper body.

I'm really happy and pleased to see you painting again. You have such beauty inside of you with your art and I love how your painting and sketching of individuals allows you to paint them with that light and just bring out this shine to them.

Yeah, I wasn't sure that I could pull off 'watery, using very little colour' with someone whose skin tone didn't allow for quite so much of the white paper to be used. Thanks, I'm pretty happy with them, too, and the people seem to be as well.

*grins* Andee's comments are all about how she loves how her hair turned out, too.

My favourite part of Shay's is the the bag, weirdly. I used so little colour and it bled out, into the background and into her shorts. I wished that some of the higher, smaller purple stripes had remained (and you can see them a bit more irl, I feel like the scanner has been washing the pictures out a bit, the background is a bit more blue, for instance) but overall, I'm really happy with out the body is integrated with the background.

thanks hon *smoosh*

These are awesome, but then again, you know I'm very partial to loose painting and expressive color. I think the subtle nuances of color in the skin tones are very successful.

Thanks. I think even if I don't, and I highly doubt I will, swap over to the style in the book, that reading it has done a lot of good for my own style, overall.

I really like the loose watery way you use the paint... I think that one can learn how to control watercolor too well and it loses some of that instinctive, intuitive feel.

And that look on my face is priceless!

great!

Thank you, I absolutely agree, and I think I tend to do that. It's kind of uptight, so I'm glad that I'm starting to see my style relax a bit more.

It is indeed an incredible shot of you. Thank you for letting me use it as a source.

Oh, I'm glad you didn't miss it, and that you enjoyed it. Thanks for letting me use your photo as a reference. You don't take a bad photo for a girl in a hospital gown! ;)

Unbelievably enough kjpepper's resource photo came from a recent, multi-day, stay in the hospital; I certainly wouldn't expect such a smile in that situation! I changed the gown to purple, at least, since that's her favourite colour.
