art to fundraise for our cat, O'Keeffe

January 29th, 2013 (05:22 pm)
Tags: ,

Hello all, I just wanted to give an update on the fundraising for our cat, O'Keeffe. I've been able to raise about 17.5% of the vet's initial costs - thank you to all who have helped us out so much, it's been a big help. Her prognosis hasn't been good, and there'll likely be more costs, so I'm going to leave the offer open until Valentine's Day. If I can start work by 7th of February (the only prerequisite to beginning being receiving the money), I should be able to get your artwork to you by the 14th - in fact, I'll guarantee it for all US deliveries.

If you're interested, or have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me via green(at)myriadcolours(dot)com, or by leaving a comment. Thank you!

hello, it's been awhile

January 23rd, 2013 (12:29 pm)

Hello, it's been awhile - thanks for sticking around anyway. I've made a big move, and have been settling into the new place here. I have been painting, I just haven't been so good about remembering to update this LJ with the pieces.

Mostly I've been working fairly small - generally 5x7 inches, and in watercolours. I've a lot less space in my new place, and no where dedicated purely to my art, so this format works well for me. Here's two pieces from the last week that I've done that are in different styles:

Our cat recently needed an unexpected emergency surgery, so I've offered to sell 5x7 paintings (topic of the purchaser's choices, but w/ limited revisions) such as these for $10, with all of the money going toward her medical fees. If you're interested, please contact me directly; green(at)myriadcolours.com or commenting here are both acceptable ways to do that.

Thresholds - Door #2: family (home/belonging)

March 15th, 2009 (10:23 pm)

THRESHOLDS is a year long project in which I'll make a piece of art for each month of 2009, family (home/belonging) being February's. I'm a month behind at this point, I hope to catch up in the next few months - March's should be posted today, in fact according to my schedule, but will not be posted for at least a week, possibly two.

12" x 12" x 2 ½" mixed media; wood, plywood, stucco, plastic, acrylic paint, metallic pigment powders, brass fittings, brass wire

notes: I crocheted the nest using brass wire, which is not as malleable as you might think. The house is set into the piece of wood so that it wouldn't stand as proud as if it had just been glued on top.

I know that people like to know what I'm exploring with a piece so I'll offer some more insight than I did last time. As the title suggests, I was thinking on concepts of home-- what IS home, what gives me, and others, a sense of family, what makes us develop a sense of belonging or connection to a person, place, or thing as opposed to just being a house, just another stranger or acquaintance or random object. Here our house is small, it is wonky, it's white picket fence not white, smudged - perhaps our home is not what others would choose, not what society tells us is biggest or best. But it is where we are welcomed with a sense of belonging by those people whose love warms us.

just a quick watercolour of tajasel, postcard size

I used a different watercolour paper than usual, and I am not fond of it. It has a strong tooth, you can see it a bit in the scan. It also seemed to absorb water at a higher rate than the stuff I'm accustomed to.

8" x 8" x 2" mixed media; wood, stucco, acrylic paint, cardboard, flocking, plastic

notes: I actually constructed that tree myself, because I'm too much of a control freak to have bought the pre-made ones.
